Why this blog?

Another handmade jewelry business blog. Just what the Internet needs, I know. Facetiousness aside, though, I do a ton of research and think I can be a helpful resource for other entrepreneurs.

I plan to share tips and tricks for starting up an Etsy jewelry shop, creating a small business on the cheap, and basically outlining the entire process of researching, creating, and selling handmade jewelry. If I learn some trade secret, I will pass it along in the hope that it might benefit someone else.

So what makes me qualified to write this blog? Perhaps nothing, perhaps a lot of things. For starters, I've always had an entrepreneurial itch to start my own business. Like so many other kids, I did the lemonade stand and bake sale thing, but I took it a bit too seriously in the planning phase; I created typed price lists and signs and spent hours planning the entire event with my niece. Similarly, my niece and I later planned to launch "Boondoggle University," complete with various courses in making plastic lacing–based keychains and ornaments. Yeah...that one never got off the ground. I suppose then that the best way to sum up one of my strengths is to call it planning and organization. If you struggle with that aspect of business, you'll probably either love or hate what I have to say.

As for making jewelry itself, while I've been making it for less than two years, I'm actually surprised I didn't think of the idea before then; I've always loved making things with my hands, and the tinier the components of the project, the better. I once created a thirteen-star American flag out of boondoggle for my best friend's birthday. I've also successfully duplicated sewing patterns for reversible bags, built beaded figurines based on terrible instructions, and dabbled in practically every craft known to humanity.

So based on this background, I hope you'll choose to learn with me as I document just how starting and running a handmade jewelry business works.
